Join us for our Beekeeping 101 workshop! This course is a light version of our Intro to Beekeeping course intended for those looking to learn about honeybees & pollinators but who may not intend to keep bees in the next season.
What You Will DoThe first portion of the class covers the honey bee life cycle, jobs/roles within the colony, honey production, the role of honey, pollen & nectar to the hive, and properties of natural honey.
We will spend the second half of the class out in the bee yard where we will look at various scenarios and topics within the hives, including locating the queen, spotting eggs & brood, pollen & honey and overall hive health.
Each participant will have the opportunity to handle a frame and will be sent home with one (1) digital photo with the bees. Equipment can be provided, however, if you do have your own, feel free to bring it!
Who Will Guide YouBeekeeper Dave & Beekeeper Keri are third generation beekeepers, partners & owners of Hunnabees Honey & Co. They manage all of the colonies owned by Hunnabees and run all educational experiences with over 13 years experience beekeeping under their belts.

Hunnabees Honey & Co.
We are third generation beekeepers who first began our adventures beekeeping on Scugog Island in Port Perry, and recently expanded our business to our new farm in Millbrook, Ontario. We aim to reduce the impact of our farm and honey production through ongoing innovation on our farm.
We foster crops which are pollinator friendly, including goldenrod, wildflower and clover. Our farm also features a fresh vegetable garden, acres of flowers (in the works) and some of our best friends, the goats.
As beekeepers, we are committed to education and aim to provide resources for the local community in understanding the role bees play in the greater ecosystem. We have teamed up with local farmers & land owners and added 5 new bee yards within Millbrook in the 2017-2018 season, with a new yard in the North Kawartha Lakes region in 2019.
In the 2020 season we are excited to further our partnership with the Junior Beekeeper program and expand more educational opportunities to the youth in our region. We are excited to formally open the farm to the public and grow our seminar/workshop programmes while also expanding our colonies. 2020 will see our first community wildflower planting event based on our 2018 seasons sales.
Check back for updates as we expand this lovely business.
We look forward to growing with you.
